Orange Beach Vacation Part II

**I am majorly behind on the blog...so please bear with me as I play catch up!**

During our vacation a couple of years ago, we discovered the Naval Air Museum (nowhere near the official title) in Pensacola, and every year since, we have made a trip over to Florida to walk through the museum. Several new areas have been added since we started going, and I am always amazed at the amount of history in that building. Now I don't know an F-14 from a crop duster; they all just look like planes to me! :) Warren tries his best to educate me in which planes are which, and which ones do certain things, but I am totally content just being a tourist and reading the signs and taking pictures.

One year we woke up early and drove over to see the Blue Angels do their practice flight. We didn't make it this year, but we had to get a picture with the blue planes anyway.

The girls love posing with the planes that have "art" on them! **notice my crazy Mags!! Oh how I love that child! I mean, I love all three of my babies, but Mags is the one that TRULY marches to her own beat.

There's my crazy girl, at it again. This time, big sister got in on the act, too!

My absolute favorite area of the museum is the one set up to look like a WWII/1940s era  town.

The Movie Theater:

I love how they love getting a picture with their movie date!

House Replica:
My parlor/living room pictures turned out really dark, but maybe you get the idea. My favorite part in this room is the old fashioned radio that plays reports of the war.

We have kind of made it a family tradition to have our picture made on the front porch.

Love the kitchen in the house. It makes me think of my grandparents and that maybe they lived in something kind of like this. There is a sheet of plexiglass about waist high, so you can't actually walk in the kitchen, but you can smell cinnamon or something baking. :)

The back porch:
Can you see the washing machine? I dread laundry like nobody's business, but I am super grateful for my modern machine.

Pawn Shop:

Barber Shop & Marine waiting on a shoe shine.

Pretty awesome gas pump. My granddaddy was a mechanic forever; wonder how many cars he may have filled up with a pump like this?

Grocery Store:
Here, they have a volunteer inside ready to answer questions and tell a little bit about what 'life' was like during this time. On our visit this year, the lady told me that due to the rationing system, you were only allowed two pair of shoes per year. TWO!!! Now I know why I wasn't born then...with my love of shoes, I would have died!!! :) Just kidding.

Classic car!
When you bought a $25 war bond, you were entered for a chance at the raffle of this 'near new' 1941 Ford V8! :)

My girls in one of the many cockpits!

THE VIETNAM EXHIBIT

The 'plaque' on the left in the photo above reads:
"The North Vietnamese kept as memories of the war against the United States a host of equipment and pieces of air craft shot down over their territory. Among the items returned were a small piece of wreckage from Lieutenant (junior grade) Everett Alvarez's A-4 Skyhawk when he was shot down on August 5, 1964 and shell of flight helmet worn by Lieutenant Commander John S. McCain III, when he ejected his aircraft over [?] Vietnam on October 26, 1967."
I absolutely cannot imagine what these men when through as POWs in Vietnam. God Bless them!

Another favorite...this tribute to the soldiers of WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and Desert Storm

Another Tradition:
Getting a picture with the huge big anchor!
