I thought I'd take some time and chronicle what it's been like around here the past couple of days. Hopefully Blogger will still be around many years from now, and we all can look back on these weeks with nostalgia.
For those of you that don't know, Warren has begun a new job. He is now working at University Medical Center in Jackson. This new job will present him with so many more opportunities that it was just too good to pass over. The one snafu, if there is one, is that he had to start pretty much immediately, as in YESTERDAY!!! He left our house around 4pm Sunday afternoon, and the girls and I have been flying solo since then. We just didn't think it was fair to make the girls adjust to a new school, homse, etc, when there were only four weeks left in the year anyway. This is tough, stressful, and tiring, but I'm extremely proud of the girls and me for hanging in there and making it. We're tough chicks! A lot tougher than I give myself credit for sometimes.
Sunday night was traumatic, though. I tried to adhere to our 'normal' bedtime routine of being in the bed by 8 as much as I could. It was actually closer to 8:30, but that's when it hit the girls, the fact that Daddy wasn't here with us. They were hysterical, inconsolable. I thought I was going to lose my mind; definitely not one of my finer nights. They did not fall asleep until well after 10. Bless their teachers for having to spend all day Monday with them! :) Before the trauma, we managed three baths, three teeth brushings, and three ear cleanings (we're still having to use antiseptic on their newly pierced ears). I got lunched made and packed and even managed to wash their uniforms. (Yes, I am patting myself on the back; I think I deserve it!)
I did let their teachers know of the 'new' situation, and of course, that's when I had to find out that that was the FIRST thing that Reese told her teacher Monday, and that she proceeded to start crying. Ugh! Hopefully each day will get better...
I think I deserve a bigger pat on the back for yesterday since it was a work day after all, plus the same night time ritual, going solo. Night time last night was a bit better, but not great by any means. They fell asleep about 8:45 (insert applause here) but by no means did they stay that way. I ended up falling out around 9:30 (and I missed Castle and Beckett finding the murderer), and when Reese woke me up at 11:30 (boo!) when she turned the overhead light on to 'look for something', I felt like I'd been sleeping for days!!!! I was thoroughly disappointed. And if wasn't Anna up at 1, it was Maggie up at 2; it was like they were infants all over again.....
I pray that things get 'easier' as they/we get more adjusted to the situation. I just hope that when he leaves again on Sunday (he's gonna come home every weekend) that we don't go through the same adjustment period. If so, I'm gonna be a goner!
I'm thinking it wouldn't be too much to ask for a full day at the spa as a 'reward,' would it? Just kidding, Warren. But, I will take a girls weekend in Memphis with my sister, though, it that's be alright! She's working on a plan....should be fun. It's been forever since she and I have hung out. I kinda miss her....
