Sometime back in April, we took the girls to Memphis for the weekend. After being apart so much this year, we thought it would be nice to have some quality family time together. (I have to give a huge shout out to my hubby--he rode in his car Friday afternoon from Jackson, arrived at the house around 6, threw some things in a bag, and got back in the car with his girls and rode AGAIN in a car to Memphis! What a trooper!) We arrived in Memphis kinda late, so we just basically hit the hay, ready for our adventures the next morning.
First up, naturally, was the zoo. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Memphis Zoo, and I especially love our family membership that was given to us by my mom. If you have a family and love this zoo like we do, I highly recommend the memberships. You will reap benefits on your first visit. One visit for us equals the price of a year long membership!!! Plus, as members you receive special offers, etc.
Anna was a bit obsessed with holding the zoo map. She served as our tour guide in the zoo. She took her job seriously, showing Daddy where we were in relation to the map. You go little tour guide!!!
I had to get a picture of our Mag-Pie in front of a real magpie exhibit. According to the plaque in front, magpies are survivors (being the youngest, our Mags is definitely that), hang upside down (Mags loves to lie off the side of the bed, couch, futon upside down), and something else but my camera cut it off!!! It also says that the magpies call sounds like chattering; "Mag," which is short for 'Margaret,' (which is our Mags' given name) means......CHATTERBOX!!! And our Mag-Pie certainly is that!!! But I wouldn't have her any other way; she is HILARIOUS!!!
I cannot believe that these sweet children have been ours for almost six years. When they were two weeks old, I didn't think any of us would make it this far! I think they are beautiful, if I do say so myself.
And speaking of beautiful, what about our big girl? I cannot believe how big she's gotten, even though according the growth charts, she's gonna be a shortie like her mama. She is incredibly smart and has a huge heart, except for when she's 'going after' her sisters! :) She is a joy to have in my life. She can be extremely obstinate at times, but the fruits don't fall far from the tree!
Anna & Maggie got their first tastes of an Icee during our zoo visit. I can't decide if it was a good idea or not. I think they were on a sugar high!! They LOVED the fact that it turned their tongues bright red.
Special thanks to a woman I don't know and will never meet again, most likely. I walked up to her and asked if she'd take a picture of my family. She immediately agreed; no weird looks or anything. This is becoming one of my favorite family shots of all time. We are all looking in the general direction of the camera and everyone looks pleasant! Ha!!!
Our next stop was the infamous Rendez-vous! Each and every time we are in Memphis, we make it a point to partake of the fabulous ribs & BBQ there. We had taken the girls there before, and we got them a ham plate. They didn't seem too interested in it this time, so Warren ordered his usual full order of ribs and the twinks split a full order! I was shocked! They loved them!!!
Mags was serious about her rib eating. She even ate 'em dry--no sauce, no nothing. She was in hog heaven (pardon the pun!).
Anna really enjoyed hers, too, but she is our child who doesn't really like to get messy. Dirty from the yard, ok, but not messy. That doesn't seem to make too much sense, but it's hard to explain.
We had a fantastic time and I for one cannot wait to do it again. Of course, we are probably going to have to wait until the might Mississip' calms a bit.
