We have had a really interesting day at chez Manning. We all woke up as we normally do and everyone was in really good moods--shocking! :) The twins were in need of some cereal and baby food, so Reese and I made a trek into town. She was such a good girl; I so enjoyed being out with her. We got home around 11. . .and that's when things started going downhill.
I loved on the babies a little and Reese did her usual of changing clothes. Warren was busy painting the trim in Reese's room, so I decided to head to the kitchen to wash bottles--especially since Anna and Maggie had only one clean bottle a piece! I had barely begun the chore of washing when I hear Warren hollering from Reese's room to bring a towel and QUICK! Seems there was a problem with the top on the white paint can and let's just say that some paint ended up on the floor. No biggie--Reese's bed will cover it and we're gonna replace the carpet in a couple of years anyway. After I get him some stuff to try and get the paint up with, I go back to the kitchen to continue washing. . .
I barely make it into the kitchen when I hear a thud. Since Warren's been painting Reese's room, her mattress has found a temporary home resting up against one of the walls in the living room. I have a painting hanging on the same wall. . .and as I'm sure you may have guessed the thud was the mattress falling down, taking the painting with it. Reese went into "Reese panic mode." When she does something wrong and something that she thinks she'll get in trouble for, she starts crying really hard and yelling kinda loud, too. She was going on and on, and I thought she was just afraid of me getting on to her. Wrong!!!! When I got over her not minding me (I've been telling her all week not to mess with that mattress), I noticed that she was bleeding by her left eye. Seems the corner of the frame of the painting caught her on its way down. I immediately called Warren to come look at it, and yes, he said that we needed to go to the emergency room. No stitches he said--get them to use the dermabond. We had only been home fifteen or twenty minutes, and since Reese is such a mama's girl, she didn't want her daddy taking her.
So, we make the trip to the ER. We arrive around 11:40 or so. Reese is starting to calm down, a little after having been so hysterical when we mentioned that she had to go to the doctor. We sit for a few minutes and they call us back to triage. Great, this isn't going to be too bad of a wait. They take all of our information and send us back to the waiting room. We don't get out of the waiting room until 12:30. We don't see a doctor until 1:00 or after. And when we do, she has to clean Reese's cut, to which Reese totally freaks out. Once it's clean, the doc tells me that it really should have a stitch or two. No way--give us the dermabond. She tells us that Reese could pull it off and we'd be back a square one. That's when I'll superglue it myself! (just kidding--don't anybody freak out or anything!) There just was gonna be NO WAY that Reese would sit still for stitches. Reese freaked out when they put the dermabond on her. The doc thinks that if I lie on the bed with Reese that it'll calm her down. Those little bitty ER beds barely hold one person, but to try to make things easier on my girl, I climb up. A nurse and I had to hold her down pretty hard so she would be still--not a very easy thing to do with a very angry and scared three year old. The whole time she kept crying and looking at me saying, "Mommy I love you. I need a hug" over and over again. Talk about my heart hurting. There was nothing I could do to take her pain and fear away--I was reminded what helpless feels like. Once, the doc was done, Reese was fine. She was ready to come home. There's a picture posted below of her eye! She is just a real little trooper. Hopefully this will be the last ER trip for a while--not gonna say forever because there's absolutely no telling what this youngun will get into! :)
Reese was given a carton of OJ at the ER, and she drank on it on the way home. She kept drinking once we got inside, but she hasn't quite figured out yet that we can't leave things in the floor since Anna & Maggie have started crawling. Maggie headed straight for the OJ and turned it over on herself and the floor. Boy this day just couldn't get any more strained, could it? ]
But overall it was a fun homecoming. We had been home about an hour or so when it started snowing!!!!!! :) Huge flakes were coming down and it wasn't just flurries. It was more snow falling from the sky than I have ever seen down here. Of course, it didn't stick or anything, but I think it was Reese's first time to see snow, so she and I bundled up and went out to let it fall on us. She ran all around the backyard telling the snow to come get her. She is such a sweet, darling little girl. I love her so!!!!
Hope everyone got to at least see the snow. It was so pretty! Hope you all have a great rest of the weekend! :)
Posting some pictures of Reese in the snow!!!
